James Edward Garver was born in Coles County, Illinois December 8, 1879. He married Myrtle Turner in 1902 and in the spring of 1905 they came to North Dakota.They farmed near Manfred and in West Ontario Township until 1909 when they moved to Fessenden.

 

He operated the Independent Grain Elevator until 1918. From Fessenden they moved to South Dakota and farmed until 1921. At that time they returned to North Dakota and farmed near New Rockford. In 1925 they moved to California, where he worked for the Shell Oil Co. He retired in 1952.

 

The Garvers raised three children: Ruth, Clyde and Jack

Mr. Garver died November 11, 1965. Their family still resides in California.
