Martin Shefveland, pioneer of North Dakota, reached his 80th birthday anniversary Sunday, Jan 15, and his children from this vicinity gathered at his home to wish him many happy returns and many more happy years. Mrs. Shefveland, who with him came to make a home in North Dakota 40 years ago, was at his side, taking part in the festivities.
A native of Stavanger, Norway, Mr. Shefveland came to the United States in 1880. Mrs. Shefveland coming a year later. The young couple was married at Audubon, MN, in 1881 and last summer, June 1, 1938 celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.
The Shefvelands resided at their homestead south of Harvey until 15 years ago when the couple moved into the city and have resided here since that time.
The Shefveland family circle of ten children, twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild is still intact. The children are Mrs. Morris Swanson and Miss Magda Shefveland of Harvey; Mrs. P.
