A retired Manfred businessman died in a Fargo hospital on November 30, 1971. Sam Rogness was born in Pierce County.  He was reared on a farm north of Manfred and later worked for a time in a garage in Fessenden. He married Lily Ruth Pepple in 1927. She died in 1944. Sam and Lily had two sons, Allan and Richard, both now deceased.

On July 15, 1948 he married Myrtle Mortenson in Harvey. For many years Sam was the Standard Oil bulk distributor in Manfred. He was later a grain buyer at Manfred elevators until his retirement in 1963. He served on Vang Lutheran Church boards, Manfred Township Board and was a member of the Sons of Norway. He died in 1971.

Myrtle Mortenson Rogness taught the lower grades in Manfred for over 30 years. Following her retirement she moved to Harvey, living for a time independently in an apartment and later living with her twin sister Elsie Martenson. Myrtle passed away February 28, 2006 at the age of 94 years.
