Emil, Olea, Inga and Emma Nelson
Emil Nelson came from Norway to the Red River Valley. He came to Manfred in 1895 and married the widow Olea Telle Haug. They had 3 children, Anna, Emma and George. George married Anna Skaar and they farmed in the Manfred area for a number of years.
Anna and Emma never married; George married Alma Skaar and they had one daughter Audrey.
Olea and Jacob Haug had 4 children, Inga, Helga, Johnny and Melvin. Jacob Haug died at an early age and Emil and Olea raised this family along with their children.
Inga never married. Helga married Emil Ongstad (brother of Oscar Ongstad), Johnny married Mabel Swang and Melvin married Inga Skar.
Inga passed away at the age of 82 years in Norway. She came to Hillsboro in November 1883 and later moved to Cummings, ND where she married Jacob Haug. He passed away in 1895. In the spring of 1895 she moved to Wells Count and established residence north of Manfred. In 1896 she married Emil Nelson and they resided in Manfred until her death.
Olea was a charter member of the East Vang Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid.
