Emma Nordtorp was born in Valdres Norway, she came to the Manfred community in 1893 where her parents homesteaded. She returned to Norway where she finished high school. The family returned to Manfred in 1906. Emma attended the Valley City Normal School and the Dakota Business School in Fargo.
She taught school in Wells County for six years, filed on a homestead claim in Montana, worked at the Wells County State Bank in Manfred and Fessenden for 27 years, and at the Citizens State Bank in Scoby, Montana for nearly 25 years.
She was a diligent church worker. While in Fessenden she sang in the choir, participated in Ladies Aid and she organized the LDR (Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation).
After retiring she made her home with her sister Mrs. Bertha Melby at Manfred. She passed away in 1968.
