Karina Hauge was born at Hjelmeland, Rogaland, Norway, and came with her folks to the United States at the age of seventeen. They came on a sail ship that took eleven weeks to cross the Atlantic Ocean.

Theodore and Karina were married at Buxton, ND in 1893 and went to Rowe, Illinois, where two of their children were born. In the 1890's, they came to North Dakota and homesteaded seven miles east of Harvey, in Manfred Township, due to Karina's health. From that time until 1931, they lived here, where their six other children were born. In 1931, they moved to a farm in Forward Township for the next five years, then to another farm in also Forward Township.  Here they lived with their son Melvin Alveshere and their son and daughter-in-law Melvin and Marie Thompson.

Theodore Alveshere died in 1952 at the age of 89. Karina stayed on the farm until 1954, when the boys discontinued farming and moved to Harvey.  She lived there until her death in 1962 at the age of 87. They both had been members of the Lutheran church. Their children were Martha (deceased), Tanner (deceased), Bartin, Melvin, John, Bertha, Thelma, and Marie. They had seventeen grandchildren; two preceded them in death.  (Growing with Pride)
